With Ajax FireProtect 2, you’re choosing smart fire detection that not only alerts you locally with a built-in siren but can also be integrated into your Ajax security system. The FireProtect 2 AC models are connected to mains power and feature a built-in backup battery. This makes them ideal for new construction or as a replacement for existing 230V fire detectors. There are different models available for smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide. Below, we explain which Ajax FireProtect 2 you need for each situation.
What is the Ajax FireProtect 2 AC?
The Ajax FireProtect 2 AC is an indoor fire detector that connects to mains power. The detector supports 110–240 V AC and also has a built-in backup battery. If the power goes out, the detector can continue to function.
Every FireProtect 2 AC also has its own siren. When an alarm is triggered, it sounds at a maximum of 85 dB from a distance of three meters. Furthermore, the detector remains active at all times, regardless of whether the burglar alarm is currently armed. After all, fire protection must also work when you’re simply at home.

Which Ajax FireProtect 2 do you need?
Which model you need depends on the hazard you want to detect and the room where the detector will be installed.
FireProtect 2 AC Heat/Smoke
The model with heat and smoke detection is designed for situations where you want to detect a fire in its early stages based on both smoke development and a sharp rise in temperature.
The smoke sensor uses two different light waves to analyze smoke particles. The detector also contains temperature sensors, which respond when the temperature rises rapidly or reaches a dangerous level, among other conditions.
For many standard living spaces and escape routes, smoke detection is the starting point. However, exactly which detectors you need according to applicable regulations—and where they should be installed—depends on the building and the specific situation. For residential buildings, regulations such as the Building and Living Environment Decree (Bbl) and NEN 2555 apply.
FireProtect 2 AC Heat/Smoke/CO
Do you want to detect carbon monoxide in addition to fire and smoke? Then choose the Heat/Smoke/CO model. It combines three types of detection in a single device.
This can be particularly useful in a home where there is also a risk of carbon monoxide, for example, from heating appliances. Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, so you cannot detect it yourself without a suitable detector.
Be sure to install it in the correct location. The ideal spot for smoke detection isn’t necessarily the same as for CO detection in every situation. Therefore, always follow Ajax’s installation instructions and the applicable safety regulations.
FireProtect 2 AC Heat/CO
The Heat/CO model detects dangerous temperature increases and carbon monoxide but does not include smoke detection.
This model may be a good choice if you deliberately want to avoid using a smoke sensor in a specific location but still want to monitor temperature and CO. Consider, for example, areas where conditions can more easily lead to false smoke alarms. The correct detector type depends on the space and the risks present.
FireProtect 2 AC Heat
The version with heat detection only responds to dangerous temperature increases but does not detect smoke or carbon monoxide.
A heat detector can be useful in areas where smoke, vapors, or other conditions might interfere with a standard smoke detector. However, it is not automatically a substitute for a smoke detector in locations where smoke detection is required or desired.
FireProtect 2 AC CO
Do you want to monitor carbon monoxide specifically? Then there’s also a CO version. This model uses a chemical sensor to detect dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. This version does not detect smoke and should therefore not be considered a replacement for a required smoke detector.

Why choose the AC version?
AC means that the detector is connected to the mains power supply. In the Netherlands, this typically means connecting it to the 230V electrical system. The built-in battery serves as a backup in the event of a power outage. Ajax specifies a power supply range of 110 to 240 V AC for the FireProtect 2 AC. This makes these models particularly suitable when you want to replace existing, outdated mains-powered smoke detectors or when mains-powered fire detection is being installed in a construction project.
For new construction, requirements under the Building and Living Environment Decree apply, and for residential buildings, NEN 2555 may apply. For new construction, renovations, or installations that must demonstrably comply with regulations, always have a professional assess which model, power supply, and installation method are required for your specific situation.
Does FireProtect 2 work without an Ajax Hub?
Yes, FireProtect 2 AC can also function as a standalone detector without an Ajax Hub. You’ll still receive the alarm via the built-in siren.

Using Multiple FireProtect 2 Detectors Together
In a larger home or commercial building, you’ll usually need multiple detectors. FireProtect 2 AC supports linked fire alarms. When one detector detects a hazard, other linked FireProtect detectors can also activate their sirens. This ensures that a fire alarm is audible in other parts of the building as well.
Consider, for example, a three-story home. If smoke is detected downstairs while you’re sleeping upstairs, you don’t want to rely solely on the sound of the downstairs detector.
